Case Study: Business Cases for a Crown Corporation

SUMMARY

Metaphase Health Research Consulting Inc writes business cases for executive management approval.

CLIENT SITUATION

A BC Crown corporation required business cases to justify several multi-million dollar renovation projects across the province. The business cases were to progress up the corporate chain of command for director approval before funding was provided.

METAPHASE ROLE AND PROCESS

To initiate the project, Metaphase interviewed key individuals within the corporation to determine specific project requirements and to identify any inherent challenges. Metaphase reviewed all the site condition reports, building audits, hazardous materials audits, renovation feasibility study reports and functional programming reports related to each project.

Working closely with the project managers, Metaphase wrote businesses cases which documented the history of the building, highlighted key issues and deficiencies, illustrated the importance of the intended renovations and justified the funding request.

KEY PROJECT CHALLENGES

The changing scope of the renovation projects meant that the development of the business case was an iterative process. Metaphase maintained close communications with the project manager to ensure that all changes and new information were incorporated into the business case.

OUTCOME

The business case was approved by senior management, and the next phase of renovation is moving forward. Metaphase has been retained to complete additional documents for this project.
